Edgewater police said they've gotten reports of about $15,000 in check or money fraud in the weeks following  mailboxes being broken into at the post office.

Police have taken at least six reports from residents reporting fraud, said Edgewater police Capt. Joe Mahoney.

Investigations revealed that the mailboxes at 400 S. Ridgewood Ave. were broken into between May 19 and 20.

Citizens who used the blue USPS mailbox outside on the south end of the building are asked to check their bank accounts to make sure they have not been victims of fraud, Mahoney said.

Anyone who discovers fraudulent activity is asked to call Edgewater police at 386-424-2000.
