Full-Size LEGO McLaren 720S Weighs More Than the Real Thing

Fans of LEGO and McLaren should head to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California.

The British automaker has teamed up with The LEGO Group to create a 1:1-scale McLaren 720S, consisting of over 280,000 bricks. As a result, the LEGO creation weighs in at 3,200 pounds, which is more than the actual car that has a dry weight of 2,828 lbs. The full-size LEGO McLaren 720S replica was completed with the help of museum visitors, who placed the final orange bricks this past weekend on June 2. It will be on display as part of an interactive exhibit until August 19.

To create an accurate representation of McLaren’s supercar, the automaker worked closely with the only U.K. certified LEGO professional builders, offering them in-depth vehicle CAD data. The team of six built the full-size replica around a steel frame, taking over 2,000 hours to build the car by hand. One nice highlight on the LEGO creation are the Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, complete with silver Pirelli Color Edition graphics.
