This year, Sail Indonesia will have Sail Moyo-Tambora 2018 as its national brand, after previously emphasizing on Sail Sabang, Karimata and Bunaken.

“This is a good moment to promote marine tourism on Sumbawa Island,” said West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Tourism Agency head Lalu Mohamad Faozal.

Around 140 yachts from more than 35 countries would be part in Sail Moyo-Tambora in Indonesian waters. This year, the participants will set sail from Darwin, Australia, and Singapore starting this month.

The yachts will then gather at Labuan Bajo, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, in early September and then travel together to Saleh Bay, which is part of the Samota (Saleh, Moyo, Tambora) minapolitan zone on Sumbawa Island, NTB, on September 8.

Sail Indonesia in NTB would take place from Sept. 8 to 22. The participants will spend a few days at each port they visit.

Lalu said at least five regencies and cities on Sumbawa Island would take part in promoting their tourist destinations during Sail Moyo-Tambora 2018, namely the Sumbawa, West Sumbawa, Dompu and Bima regencies and Bima city.

Sumbawa Regent Husni Djibril said that he expected the Sail Moyo-Tambora branding would promote Sumbawa to a global audience.

“Moyo Island is already famous as world-class tourist destination after the late Lady Diana vacationed there. But Sumbawa has many other attractive destinations that are as beautiful as Moyo, which hopefully can be exposed more through this event,” said Husni.
