AHMEDABAD: Suresh Gaur, a 58-year-old businessman, ended his life by jumping from his 12th floor residence at Orchid Elegance in the South Bopal area of Ahmedabad. Police said Gaur was depressed after his wife’s death in 2013, and this could be the reason for his death.
“The deceased, Suresh Manu Gaur, ended his life by jumping off the 12th floor of the building on Monday morning. According to neighbours, he had a good relationship with his son, Kashyap, who is as an engineer at a corporate entity with an office at Infocity in Gandhinagar. The neighbours said no particular family issue was apparent to them. Gaur had become reticent after his wife’s death in 2013, which could be the reason for his extreme step,” said I M Gohil, inspector of Bopal police station.

Gaur used to work for a submersible pump manufacturing company in the Odhav industrial area of the city and in 2015 had set-up his own firm in Odhav.

Gohil said that on Monday morning, Gaur was walking about in the 12th floor gallery in front of his house for a while before he jumped off.

“He and his son had a cup of tea and a chat like on usual days. After tea, he walked out of the house to the gallery where he would walk every morning and his son went to his room and started working on his laptop. After about 30 minutes, when his son did not find Gaur about, he went out to see him on the ground in a pool of blood,” said Gohil.

“Gaur lived in the Vastral area of the city till 2015. After his wife’s death, he moved to his son’s house in South Bopal,” said a local source.

Bopal police registered a case of accidental death and Gaur’s body was sent to Sola Civil Hospital for a postmortem.

Tea with son before going over the edge

when Gaur and Kashyap had tea this morning, the son would never have thought it would be his last cup of tea with his father. “He and his son had a cup of tea and a good chat like on usual days. After tea, he walked out of the house to the gallery where he would walk every morning and his son went to his room and started working on his laptop. After about 30 minutes, when his son did not find Gaur about, he went out only to see him on the ground in a pool of blood,” said P I I M Gohil.

From rags to riches, Gaur had set up his own business

Gaur had faced ups and downs in his life which is evident with the fact that he succeeded to establishing his own business after working for a submersible pumps manufacturer for around three decades. “Gaur worked for a submersible pumps manufacturing unit in Odhav GIDC for around 30 years. He later established his own unit manufacturing pumps in Odhav, about a year and a half ago,” said an investigator.
