AMES — Iowa State forward Cameron Lard has enrolled in a “wellness program dedicated to helping individuals build a balanced and structured lifestyle,” the university announced Monday.
Iowa State men’s basketball coach Steve Prohm talked to Lard and his mother, Belinda Lard, about enrolling Lard in the wellness program that helps people make improvements in all aspects of their lives.
“Cam needs to change some personal habits and he knows that,” Prohm said in a news release from the Iowa State athletics department. “Our priority is, and should be, to help our kids reach their potentials for the long term.”
Lard won’t be on campus this summer, and already has enrolled in the wellness program. He plans on returning to Iowa State in the fall after completing the program.
“Cam has been open to improving as a person and desiring to make better decisions,” Prohm said. “I’m so proud of him for taking ownership on becoming the best Cam he can be. There is a very bright future for him if he matures as a young man.”
Belinda appreciates that Iowa State and Prohm came to Cam and her about the wellness program.
“They care about Cam as a young man and that means the world to me,” Belinda said in the release.
Lard was suspended for the first three games of last season, and constantly was in Prohm’s doghouse, leading to him not starting the game against Tennessee. The 6-foot-8 sophomore averaged 12.6 points per game last season.
Lard also was cited for being a minor on prohibited premises on April 28 while he was at AJ’s Ultra Lounge in Ames.
“With the help of everyone here, I can assure you that I’m making some positive changes and (developing) better habits,” Lard texted Prohm this week, according to the release.
