Surat: A 22-year-old construction worker died on the spot after he was knocked down by a speeding city bus in Sarthana area on Monday.
The deceased, identified as Rohit Devipujak, was crossing a BRTS track with his wife when the city bus knocked him down. Angered over the incident, some people pelted stones on the bus and broke its windshield.

Rohit was a native of Palitana in Bhavnagar. His body was shifted to the Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) for postmortem.

According to the police, Rohit was going for a medical check-up with his wife as he was suffering fever since last few days. They were walking on a pedestrian crossing lane near the bus stop when the speeding bus hit him.

Rohit lived under Hira Baug flyover and worked at a construction site. Police have registered an offence of rash driving against the bus driver who is absconding.
