Coimbatore: The National Investigation Agency took Mubarak, the prime accused in Sasikumar murder case, to Sathyamanglam and later to Bengaluru on Monday as part of its investigation. Mubarak had stayed in Bengaluru for several months while he was absconding from the police since the murder.
The NIA got the custody of Mubarak, who was lodged at the Salem central prison, from May 31 to June 7, 2018. He was brought to the city on Saturday and taken to a mosque, the crime scene and other locations.

Various gadgets, receipts and challans seized from his home were checked and he was inquired about them.

Soon after the murder, Mubarak had gone to Sathyamanglam, where a friend had harboured him, and later to Bengaluru. Since other people were also involved in helping him hide, the NIA is trying to probe about their involvement in various crimes.

Sasikumar of Subramaniyampalayam was hacked to death by a four-member gang on September 22, 2016, while he was returning home on his motorcycle. On June 7, Mubarak will be produced in a Chennai court after the custody ends.

The NIA team is likely to file chargesheet against Mubarak and another accused Syed Abudhakir by June-end.

The CB-CID had filed an interim chargesheet against Saddam Hussain and Abudhakir, the other two accused in the case. They are also investigating with every member of Popular Front of India to find out their involvement in the crime.

As per CB-CID, which was earlier investigating the case, it was a message from Sasikumar that caused enmity between him and Mubarak. After this message, he planned the murder, they had said. But since this was a planned murder, officials said that there could be many people involved who tried to hide the crime, extended help to the accused financially and otherwise and harbored them. “All these are being probed,” said an official.
