A head-on collision in south DeLand on Monday afternoon injured five people, including a person who was in serious condition, officials said.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash at 2235 South Woodland Blvd., said DeLand spokesman Chris Graham.

Rescue workers from the DeLand Fire Department and police responded about 1:08 p.m. to the wreck involving three vehicles that collided collided less than a half-mile north of the intersection of Woodland and Orange Camp Road, Graham said.

All three vehicles sustained heavy damage and five patients were treated at the scene. Four were taken to area hospitals and one was treated and released at the scene. Of the four hospitalized, four were in stable condition and one person was in serious condition, Graham said.

Seventeen firefighters from 10 fire department units from DeLand and Volusia County worked the crash, which remains under investigation.
