A special Sunday cleanliness drive was today launched by North Delhi Mayor Adesh Gupta from Paharganj during which special sanitation staff were deputed to clean the areas, which otherwise get left out in the routine work, the civic body said.
The drive started from Dr. Bal Krishan Munje Chowk at Sadar Paharganj. The mayor also cleaned the statue of Munje,a leader of the Hindu Mahasabha, installed at the market chowk, the NDMC said.
"During the drive, special sanitation staff were deputed to clean the areas, which are left out otherwise during the routine sanitation work. The mayor was accompanied by area councillor Babita Bharicha," the civic body said in a statement.
Gupta directed the department to warn the concessionaire to properly maintain the urinals at the New Delhi Railway Station.
"The urinals inspected were not clean and not properly maintained by the concessionaire. The mayor also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Karol Bagh to get the area under Zakhira Flyover cleaned up," the statement said.
Mayor Gupta said he would continue the drive every Sunday and would pick such areas, where there is more footfall.
"Similar cleanliless works were also carried out in Old Rajender Nagar area, Pitampura ND GP Block market, Ajmal Khan Road and B A Market, Shalimar Bagh, Kewal Park andModel Town," the NDMC said.
