PM Modi's interview in Singapore was pre-scripted, says Rahul Gandhi

NEW DELHI: Congress President Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of giving pre-scripted interviews, claiming that it would be an “embarrassment to us all” if he did take “real” questions. In a tweet, the Congress chief said: “The first Indian Prime Minister who takes “spontaneous” questions that the translator has pre-scripted answers to.”

“Good that he doesn’t take real questions... Would have been a real embarrassment for us all if he did,” he added.

In his tweet, Gandhi attached a video where the translator is heard purportedly reading out a scripted answer during Modi’s interaction at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore during his recent visit to the South-east Asian city state.

Gandhi is currently abroad along with his mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi who had gone for a medical check-up to the United States.

Earlier, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor had tweeted while tagging a news report on the NTU interview, “Oh dear. When the translator says what the PM was supposed to say, but didn’t”.

Smriti dares Rahul to debate with a BJP leader of his choice

Union Minister Smriti Irani on Monday dared Rahul Gandhi for a debate with a BJP leader of his choice, including party chief Amit Shah. “PM Narendra Modi himself has said this. Rahul Gandhi should come forward and speak on any issue. He can speak in Parliament or in front of us. We are ready for debate,” Irani said in Surat, when asked by reporters about the Congress chief’s attacks on Modi.
