BALANGIR: The State Special Relief Commissioner has approved additional fund of Rs 9.5 crore for renovation and beautification of Lakshmi jore nullah in the district. Earlier, the State Government had allocated Rs 10.4 crore for development of the nullah from Public School to Satya Narayanpada here.
Informing this, Opposition leader and local Congress MLA Narasingh Mishra recently said with this fund, work will be carried out from Gandharla dam to the Public School of the rivulet.

He criticised the BJD Government for failing to increase irrigation potential. During a visit to the district in 2006, the Chief Minister had promised to irrigate 35 per cent of agriculture land in each block. But not a single block in Balangir district has achieved irrigation coverage target, he said. Moreover, the mega lift irrigation project, which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister one and a half years back at Gudvela, is yet to be made functional. Similarly, Lower Suktel project has faced an inordinate delay, he added.

Mishra asked the officials concerned to speed up construction work on the bypass road in the town by utilising `40 crore that was already with the administration. He also reviewed progress of the new bottling plant in Balangir and proposed Agricultural University in KBK.
