A Waihi bridge remains closed after severe flooding.

A Waihi bridge has reopened after severe flooding caused it to close.

Barry Rd, near the Golden Valley Bridge near Waihi, was underwater on Sunday.

The water has gone down, Hauraki District Council spokeswoman Paula Trubshaw said.

Engineers have inspected the bridge for structural damage on Monday afternoon and given it the all clear.

Driver should be mindful of localised flooding, slips and debris, Trubshaw said.

Crews patrolling local roads on Monday morning said there is a lot of surface flooding around the Hauraki district.

State Highway 2 between Paeroa and Waihi - which was closed overnight after a slip on in Karangahake Gorge - has also reopened.
