Telangana Jana Samithi president M. Kodandaram has said those who are interested in rural development and want to work in support of farmers and other sections in villages can apply for contesting on behalf of his party in the coming gram panchayat elections.

He said they could directly apply for party candidature on the party website.

Talking to the mediapersons, here on Monday, after unfurling TJS flag at Indalwai, Dichpally and Borgam, he said his party would struggle for the allocation of funds and also powers in decision-making in administration with an aim to achieve ‘grama swarajyam’.

“This is very crucial time for the fight for overall village development,” said he.

Prof. Kodandaram said the Rythu Bandhu Pathakam (RBP) created a lot of confusion among farmers as it led to plethora of mistakes in land records. It happened as the revenue department staff worked under so much of pressure for the speedy completion of the exercise, he said.

Furthermore, the RBP helped those who in fact were not in need of Government’s assistance while proved futile in the case of the real needy farmers, he said pointing out that over 15,700 farmers constituting just 0.28 per cent of total farmers received Rs.1.57 lakh each while 85 per cent farmers got an average amount of Rs.7,000.

“This kind of gap in the Government’s assistance for farm investment would not help agriculture and farmers. It subjected farmers to so much mental agony. Our party workers would try to give mental solace to farmers in this regard,” he said.

Prof. Kodandaram later attended an Iftar at Descent function hall.
