Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz to step down

Starbucks Corp.'s Howard Schultz will step down as executive chairman and as member of the retailer's board at the end of the month, according to reports late Monday citing a memo sent to employees. Shares of Starbucks fell more than 2% after the news and recently pared losses. Schultz is credited with taking the coffee giant from a local Seattle chain to global powerhouse. Starbucks last month closed for one afternoon for employee anti-bias training, after a video of two men being handcuffed and removed by at least six police officers from a Philadelphia Starbucks went viral in April. The men were waiting for a business associate.

Nestle to pay $7.15 billion to Starbucks in global marketing deal

Nestle SA and Starbucks Corp. on Monday announced a global marketing deal, in which the Swiss food and drink giant will market the coffee company's consumer and foodservice products. The deal gives the Nestle "perpetual rights" to market Starbucks products globally outside of its coffee shops, and will pay Starbucks $7.15 billion up front as part of the agreement. "This global coffee alliance will bring the Starbucks experience to the homes of millions more around the world through the reach and reputation of Nestle," said Kevin Johnson, president and chief executive officer of Starbucks. Nestle expects the business to contribute positively to its earnings per share and organic growth targets from 2019. Around 500 Starbucks employees will join Nestle as part of the deal, which is expected to close by the end of 2018.
