A Naraingarh-based civil judge-cum-judicial magistrate and an advocate were killed and another advocate was seriously injured after their Ford Fortuner overturned near Naraingarh’s Danoura village, about 50km from Chandigarh, on Sunday morning.

The deceased have been identified as judicial officer Sahil Yadav, a native of Gurugram posted at Naraingarh for the last two years, and advocate Rajan Gupta, a four-time Naraingarh Bar Association president.

Advocate Rajiv Singh has been admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh.

Onlookers said Gupta suddenly lost control of the speeding vehicle that then rammed into a roadside tree and overturned.

They said Gupta was killed on the spot, while the judge and the other advocate were taken to GMCH-32, where Yadav succumbed to his injuries.

Following the accident, a police team, several advocates and locals reached the spot and shifted Gupta’s body to Ambala civil hospital for autopsy. The body was handed over to the family and cremated on Sunday evening, police said.

A large number of lawyers, judicial officers and people from cross-section of society attended the cremation.

Ambala District Bar Association president Umrish Gandhi said the deaths were a great loss to the legal fraternity.
