KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Baskota, assumed office today. He was promoted from the position of Minister of State (Communication and Information Technology) to Minister on June 1.

Talking to mediapersons after assuming office at Singha Durbar today, he directed the state-owned media houses to become tougher against people and organisations not clearing advertisement tariff for years.

He assured of no compromises, to ensure good governance. He said he was not in favour of making media headlines by carrying out surprise monitoring, adding that a technical group from the ministry would be assigned for such work.

Likewise, the minister promised that he would keep himself well updated about affairs concerned and no wrong-doers would be allowed to walk free. “All are equal in the eyes of law.”

He expressed concerns over problems in tower network connections of Nepal Telecom in some areas of Kathmandu Valley. Secretary at the Ministry, Mahendra Man Gurung, and chiefs of other subordinate bodies welcomed him on the occasion.
