GHAZIABAD: An Indirapuram resident was allegedly robbed of Rs 13.05 lakh by two
armed assailants at around 3pm on Monday. The robbery took place outside a Punjab National bank branch in Sector 2, Vaishali, which falls under Indirapuram police station.
A team of cops who rushed to the spot following the crime, conducted a combing operation but were unable to get any leads. An FIR was registered in the matter.
The complainant, a milk distributor for Mother Dairy, Devender Chandel, has alleged that two men on a scooter robbed the cash from him as soon as he reached the bank. “I had brought the cash from home to deposit in the bank. Two men pointed a gun at my forehead and snatched the cash bag from me. There were no cops or PCR vans patrolling the area at the time,” said Chandel.
Chandel told cops he had reached the bank along with a friend on a Royal Enfield motorbike. “We’re trying to procure CCTV footages from the area. The spot where the robbery took place is hidden from CCTV cameras of the bank by foliage of a tree,” said local police outpost in-charge Bhupendra Poriya.
Police suspect robbery could have been conducted by someone who had kept a close vigil on Chandel’s movements. “Initially, Chandel complained the amount robbed was around Rs 20 lakh. However, he called up his accountant who checked the slips and verified the amount he was carrying was Rs 13.05 lakh. We do not have any leads in the case. Teams have been formed to trace the robbers,” additional superintendent of police Ravi Kumar told TOI.
