Volunteers who participated in Ramakrishna Mission’s Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan and Shramdan cleaned Jail Road, Karangalpady, Kodialbail and MG Road areas here on Sunday.
They cleaned the areas near Canara First Grade College, SDM College by removing weeds from both sides of the roads and footpaths. A group cleaned both sides of Jail Road till Karangalpady.
Volunteers also cleared drains of debris to enable smooth flow of rainwater. They removed heaps of garbage from a corner on CG Kamath Road. The spot has now been decorated with flowerpots to prevent the public from littering again.
Several compound walls in the city have been used for pasting posters thus ruining the beauty of the city.
Volunteers of Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan have removed such posters from several compound walls and have given a facelift to them, with their artistic drawings and paintings.
Compound walls on MG Road and Canara College are being adorned with paintings and trendy art craft by volunteers since a week in an effort to create awareness among people to keep public property clean.
Vikram Shetty and Shailesh Kotian of Aditattwa Arts and other members of the group are busy in giving them a make-over.
Volunteers in two teams removed several illegal posters and banners from various parts of the city on Sunday.
MRPL and Nitte Institutions are sponsoring the drive.
Swami Jitakamanandaji of Ramakrishna Mutt, Mangaluru, magician Kudroli Ganesh were among those who participated in the drive.
