Bhopal: BMC merely serving notices to 350 dilapidated buildings

Bhopal: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has failed to act against any of the 350 dilapidated buildings in the city. The BMC officials are treating the matter as mere formality and have done nothing concrete. It has been serving notices to the owners of those building for the last couple of years.

The BMC has reportedly failed to coordinate with other agencies concerned including PWD and BDA as some of the buildings belong to them. “We have identified these buildings and have sent notices to their owners. We will soon take action on them,” said Harish Gupta deputy commissioner in the BMC.

Now, that the rains is about to arrive the BMC is looking other way rather than taking any preemptive steps. Threat looms large on the people living inside and around the buildings which are situated in the most crowded parts of the city.

BMC had prepared a list of dilapidated builings around five years back and it identified around 209 buildings but did not beyond it. The figure rose to 220 next year. 242 buildings were marked as threatening in 2015. The present count 350. These buildings are by and large located in the areas of old city : Peer Gate,  Jumerati, Hamidia road, Chowk Bazaar, Iqbal maidan, Imami gate and connecting areas, few of them are decades old which can collapse anytime.
