Sensing foul smell, neighbours alert cops

In a pathetic incident, a mentally unsound person kept his father’s body in the house for about three days. The issue came to light on Sunday only after the neighbours complained to the police about the foul smell emanating from the house.

The deceased was identified as Konduru Koteswara Rao (70), a retired employee of the Vijayawada Thermal Power Station (VTPS). He was seen last on Wednesday, said the locals.

The Penamaluru police visited the house at Shirdi Nagar, Kanuru and found the decomposed body of the septuagenarian.

His son, K. Ramalingeswara Rao, about 30 years and reportedly mentally ill, was also staying in the house.

Mr. Koteswara Rao’s wife died a few years ago and the father and son were staying in the house. He had some health disorders, the neighbours said.

Post-mortem performed

The police shifted the body to the Government General Hospital (GGH) mortuary. In the preliminary post-mortem report, doctors said there were no external injuries on the body and it could be a natural death.

Penamaluru CI K. Damodar said information had been passed to the relatives, who were staying at Tenali in Guntur district, and the body was handed over to them.

However, the forensic report is awaited. Locals said Mr. Ramalingeswara Rao was going about with his routine activities.
