Fyfe offered a week, Rance fined for dive
Nat Fyfe will need to head to the tribunal to remain eligible to win the Brownlow medal after being offered a one-match ban for his elbow to the head of Collingwood’s Levi Greenwood.
Meanwhile Richmond champion Alex Rance has been fined for exaggerating contact made by Essendon’s Shaun McKernan in a marking contest on Saturday night.
Fremantle captain Fyfe – who had been Brownlow favourite – was offered the ban by match review officer Michael Christian even though Greenwood avoided injury after the 2015 Brownlow medallist collected the Magpies tagger after arriving late to a third-quarter contest during Collingwood’s thumping win at the MCG on Sunday.
The incident was assessed as intentional with low impact to the head. Greenwood had played out the game.
Hawthorn star Tom Mitchell has been installed as the new Brownlow favourite at TAB after Fyfe's suspension. The Dockers (4-7) face Adelaide at Optus Stadium on Sunday.
Rance can accept a $1000 fine for staging after taking a dive in the Tigers’ Dreamtime win over the Bombers at the MCG.
Christian laid 11 charges in all on Monday. The only other player facing a suspension is North Melbourne youngster Jy Simpkin, who has been offered a two-match ban for rough conduct on the Brisbane Lions' Allen Christensen.
Hawthorn veteran Shaun Burgoyne, Port Adelaide pair Tom Rockliff and Sam Powell-Pepper, Gold Coast’s Touk Miller and David Swallow, Brisbane Lions enforcer Mitch Robinson, North’s Scott Thompson and Docker Darcy Tucker have all been fined for various incidents.
