Man held ten years after eloping with minor
AHMEDABAD: Twenty-eight-year-old Meena didn’t foresee having to live without her husband, Kuldeep Yadav, when she eloped with him ten years ago, as a girl of 17 years and six months. She cried when police came to arrest Kuldeep, for the case concerning her abduction that was registered at Odhav police station when they eloped. For the time being, police called Meena’s parents and sent her for a medical examination, as the case includes the charge of rape.
Police said they are not unlikely to get anything from Meena’s medical examination after ten years. “But this is the procedure and we have to follow it,” said a police official.

Meena, now the mother of five children from Yadav, has no complaint against her husband. They were living happily in Himmatnagar, when crime branch sleuths knocked at their doors on Monday.

“We arrested Yadav and handed him over to Odhav police, where the case was registered ten years ago. For the time being, we called Meena’s parents to look after her. She can, of course, decide where she wants to go,” said sub inspector D K Chaudhary of crime branch. Police said Meena met Yadav ten years ago. “They fell in love and eloped one day. Meena’s father lodged an FIR for kidnapping a minor,” added Chaudhary.

Crime branch officials said Yadav married Meena and first settled in Rajkot. He worked as a crane driver to make a living. “He then went to his native village in Uttar Pradesh and returned to Gujarat after a few years. The couple settled in Himmatnagar and Yadav again began working as a crane driver,” said a crime branch official.

“We got a tip off about Yadav’s location and arrested him on Monday. His wife and five children also accompanied us to Ahmedabad and later to Odhav police station,” said a crime branch official.
