NEET results: City fares marginally better than last year

Coimbatore: As NEET results were declared on Monday, students from the city have overall performed marginally better than last year, said representatives from NEET coaching centres. They expect increase in number of students who would get into the merit list this year.
R Sivakumar from TIME coaching centre in the city said, “About 80 students from the centre have scored enough to get seats in government colleges. Last year, only 47 students from the centre had got seats in government colleges.” The highest score from the centre was 578, he added.

Representatives of other coaching centres also said the performance of the students was better than last year.

However, of the total 1,14,602 students who appeared in the exam from Tamil Nadu, only 45,336 students had passed. Academics said this was due to lack of systematic preparation for NEET. Vijay Ramachandran of Competitive Edge Academy said the overall awareness about multiple choice questions and competitive exams was lacking among both teachers and students.

“Of the four options three will look almost correct, while one will be the correct answer. Students should be trained to tackle such questions. This needs proper training from school-level,” said Ramachandran.

However, with increasing awareness, academics expected the performance of students to become better in another two years. "With increased awareness among students we could definitely see an improvement in the performance," said P V Lakshmi, director of operations, C V Raman Academy.
