A 38-year-old taekwondo teacher out on bail in a molestation case was arrested on June 1 for allegedly raping a woman inside her home in Rangpuri Pahari near Vasant Kunj on May 29, the police said on Sunday.
Sandeep Chauhan fled after the incident but was caught within days after the woman identified him from a list of notified offenders. Over 30 cases of molestation, stalking, snatching and robbery are registered against the accused, the police said.
Last arrest
Sandeep was arrested two months back for allegedly masturbating in front of two women in the same area. He was released on bail a few weeks back.
The 27-year-old woman, who lives alone, returned from office around 9.30 p.m. on May 29 when she was overpowered by the accused just as she stepped inside her rented accommodation.
He forced his way inside her home and raped her, the police said.
Colleague’s help
A senior officer said Sandeep did not know the woman and attacked her just after he spotted her. The woman went to office the next day and told her colleague about the attack. The colleague accompanied her to Vasant Kunj (North) police station.
“The police asked for her to describe the accused. As she was describing the accused, the police showed her Sandeep’s photo. The woman identified him as her attacker. He was put under technical surveillance and arrested on June 1,” a police officer said.
Case registered
Based on the woman’s complaint, a case under Sections 376 (rape), 307 (attempt to murder), 392 (robbery), 328 (poisoning), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (threatening) has been registered against Sandeep, they said.
The police said the woman has recorded her statement before a Magistrate.
Sandeep, who is married and has a child, stays in Paschim Vihar. He taught taekwondo in school before his first arrest.
