HYDERABAD: ‘That’s a jackpot!’, thought Krishna (name changed) when he received an email confirming his job at a star hotel in America. The salary was high compared to his current job in the city. He decided that he would not let the opportunity slip at any cost. Feeling empathetic towards his female colleague, he tried to get her the same job and even helped her with finances. However, Krishna’s dreams came crashing down when he realised he was cheated with a fake job offer and lost almost Rs 30 lakh in the process.
Cybercrime police of Rachakonda have registered a complaint in relation to the particular case. A special team is leaving for Bengaluru to nab the culprit.
It was September 2017, Krishna, a chef at a five-star hotel in Hi-tech city, was restlessly looking for new job. He uploaded his resume on a job portal with his two-year experience seeking a prospective job in any star hotel across the country.
One day, he received an email from a stranger saying he had been selected as a chef at a star hotel in America with a handsome salary. Krishna did not bother verifying if his prospective job at the hotel was a genuine one.
Days after replying to the email, he received a call from the ‘recruiters’. They explained to him that he has to pay some money towards processing fees of the application and other related charges.
Krishna covinced his father, who lives in Nizamabad to send Rs 30 lakh. When he did not get any communication about his new job, he realised that he was duped and lodged a complaint with the police. “He (victim) had been depositing the money in two bank accounts at Bengaluru for last seven months in instalments. These accounts are being operated by one person, who is suspected to be a Nigerian national,” Rachakonda Cybercrime ACP S Harinath.
The cases of job fraud have become rampant in the recent times, where hundreds of youngsters are being duped by crooks.
