NEW DELHI: BJD leader Bhartruhari
Mahtab declined to be the convener of a
PAC sub-committee formed to examine excess appropriations, saying the panel is not needed keeping in mind the light load involved and lack of precedence.
“The work load under this nomenclature is not much. Witnesses are seldom called to depose... Either you are ignorant or someone has misled you relating the formation of this sub-committee,” Mahtab wrote to PAC chairperson Mallikarjun Kharge.
Mahtab had headed a sub-committee that raised the issue of incomplete
Bofors audits and led to the Centre seeking to appeal closure of the case in
Supreme Court.
Mahtab said he was surprised the sub-committee was formed as it is at variance with usual purpose of such panels — to expedite the main PAC committee’s work.
