Stocks higher, extend gains from Friday employment data

U.S. stocks started on a positive note Monday as trade fears were offset by Friday's solid employment report. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 119 points, or 0.5%, to 24,756. The S&P 500 opened higher by 7 points, or 0.3%, to 2,741. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 22 points, or 0.3%, to 7,576. Investors remain sanguine even as concerns over global trade remain. Over the weekend, trade talks between the U.S. and China broke down, meanwhile financial ministers from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the U.K. expressed their "disappointment" on President Donald Trump's decision to place tariffs on the U.S.'s major allies. Friday's jobs report showed above than expected gains to employment and wages.
