CPI(M) leader Saji Cherian, who won the byelection from Chengannur, was sworn in as MLA on Monday.
Soon after the Question Hour, Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan informed the House about the swearing-in of the new member. Legislature Secretary V.K. Babu Prakash invited Mr. Cherian to take the pledge. Members received Mr. Cherian with a huge applause.
After the swearing-in, Mr.Cherian greeted leaders of the ruling and Opposition benches. His relatives and leaders from Alappuzha were present to witness the ceremony. The byelection was held because the seat had fallen vacant following the death of K.K. Ramachandran Nair.
