Vijay Mahajan made Rajiv Gandhi Foundation CEO

NEW DELHI: Social entrepreneur Vijay Mahajan has been appointed as secretary & chief executive officer of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF). He will also be director of Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies , according to a statement issued by RGF.

The statement said Mahajan is a leading social entrepreneur. In 1982 he founded PRADAN, an NGO which motivates young professionals to work at the grassroots to promote livelihoods of the poor.Mahajan founded the Basix Social Enterprise Group, which has supported three million poor households through microfinance and livelihood promotion services, it said.

Mahajan is an alumnus of the IIT, Delhi (BTech, 1975), and IIM, Ahmedabad (1981), from where he got his MBA with a Gold Medal.

He was a mid-career Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University.
