Joseph Boyd Cooper, 96, of Appomattox, died on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Anna Lee Stewart Cooper. Born on July 5, 1921, in Columbia, S.C., he was the son of the late Nannie Dunston and Joseph Bunyan Cooper. He was a very faithful member of the Appomattox 7th Day Adventist Church and was a former athletic director for Southern Missionary College, Collegedale, Tenn., from 1956 thru 1962. He retired in 1985 as the Physical Education instructor with New Carrollton Elementary School, Prince George County, Md. Mr. Cooper proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army Air Force. He is survived by two children, his son, Allan Lee Cooper and his wife, Carol of Collegedale, Tenn., and daughter, JoAnn Trohan of Appomattox; three grandchildren, Carol Ann Harrison, Christine Marie Haldeman, and Paul Boyd Cooper; and five great-grandchildren, Emily Ann Harrison, Daniel T. Harrison, Rachel Mary Harrison, Britany Nicole Cooper, and Christopher Ryan Haldeman. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Bellamy Memorial Cemetery, Gloucester, Va., by the Rev. Ken Waclo. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m., Monday, June 4, 2018, at Robinson Funeral Home.
