DENVER (AP) Colorado authorities say a juvenile is dead and a ranch hand critically injured during a confrontation that began with a carjacking.
Detective Sgt. Greg Jones of the Park County Sheriff's Office says the incident occurred Sunday afternoon near Echo Valley Ranch, which is southwest of Denver in central Colorado.
Jones says the juvenile attempted a carjacking around 4:30 p.m. The carjacking victim escaped and flagged down the ranch employee, who then confronted the juvenile.
The juvenile was shot at least once while the ranch employee was stabbed several times. Their names weren't immediately released.
The juvenile fled and died shortly after being found by deputies.
Jones says the ranch hand was in critical but stable condition at St. Anthony's Hospital in Lakewood.
The incident remains under investigation.
