Two vehicles collided at a one-way bridge on Turitea Rd, just outside Palmerston North, on Sunday morning. One woman died.
A 28-year-old woman has died in a crash near Palmerston North.
The crash happened on the outskirts of the city and another person was taken to hospital with critical injuries.
It was on a one-way bridge at Turitea Rd, south of Palmerston North, at 9.15am on Sunday, police said.
Two people – the sole occupants of each car – were taken to hospital by ambulance. One had since died in hospital.
The scene was clear just after 11am. The police serious crash unit is investigating.
The fatal crash is the second within a week on the outskirts of Palmerston North.
A funeral was held on Saturday for Meadow James, 12, who was a passenger in a stolen car that crashed near Longburn on Monday.
The funeral for Ihaia McPhee-Maxwell, 15, the driver of that car fleeing police, was held on Friday.
Nationally, wintry weather was creating some difficult conditions for motorists during Queen's Birthday Weekend.
One person was killed in a crash near Turangi just hours into the weekend holiday period on Friday night.
Police named the woman as 71-year-old Te Maramatangi Marion Anderson, from Turangi.
There had also been a series of other crashes, including people suffering serious injuries in Auckland and Waikato.
