Tuscarawas County scored four times in the top of the seventh inning to solidify a one-run lead en route to an 8-3 win over host Toronto in an American Legion baseball opener Friday night.
The Panthers (1-0) led 4-3 when they plated four runs in the top of the seventh to gain control.
Nathan Pfeiffer and winning pitcher Wyatt Garbrandt each finished with two singles and two RBIs for Tuscarawas County. Aaron Mizer recorded a single and an RBI. London Detweiler, Tyler Sweitzer and Mark Smith all collected an RBI. Also, Seth Johnson singled twice.
Garbrandt started the game for Tuscarawas County, and he picked up the win. He struck out one, walked four and allowed three runs on five hits in six innings of work on the mound.
Reece Harmon came on to pitch the seventh. He did not record a strikeout while walking one. He gave up one hit, but he did not give up a run.
A.J. Clegg started for Toronto and took the loss. He struck out four, walked three and allowed four runs on five hits in four innings of work.
Zac Gulczynski and Brandon Boyd each delivered an RBI single for Toronto.
