The Stetson Hatters are one win away from the program’s first trip to super regionals.
Following Saturday’s 10-3 takedown of third-seeded Oklahoma State, the Hatters will have as many as two cracks at securing the DeLand Regional.
Let’s put the victory into historical perspective. Here is a look at where Stetson stands, by the numbers.
2011: The last time Stetson advanced to a regional final, ultimately ending with an 8-2 defeat to South Carolina. However, the only previous time the Hatters participated in a winner-take-all game was in 1988, the finale of a six-team regional. They lost to Florida, 8-0.
1985: Prior to Saturday night, Stetson last knocked off Oklahoma State 33 years ago, on March 8, 1985. The Cowboys won the next four meetings between 1985-2004, scoring at least eight runs in every game.
31-3: The survivor of Sunday morning’s USF-Oklahoma State elimination clash faces the daunting task of defeating the Hatters at Melching Field. Stetson improved its home record to 31-3, the most victories in the stadium’s 20-year history.
20: The victory was the 20th all-time for the Hatters in regional competition. Stetson has qualified for 19 NCAA tournaments; of course, this is the first time it has done so as a No. 1 seed.
17: In addition to advancing to the region final, Stetson matched the longest winning streak in program history. The only other time the Hatters won 17 consecutive ball games happened in 1994. The list of schools that fell victim to Stetson during that run includes Michigan, Purdue and Virginia Tech (twice apiece).
