Captains routed by South Bend, 14-7

Host South Bend slugged the Captains, 14-7, on June 3, sending Lake County to its eighth loss in its past nine games.

Starter Nick Gallagher gave up five runs in 3 2/3 innings. Manual Alvarez relieved Gallagher and gave up six more runs.

Center fielder Oscar Gonzalez kept up his power hitting for the Captains (22-35). He hit his eighth home run of the season, and now has 23 RBI.

Right fielder Will Benson had two hits, including a double, and two RBI, giving him 20 for the season.

Third baseman Tyler Friis had three hits and scored twice.

After an off day, the Captains return to Classic Park to face Dayton on June 5.
