Hazardous surf pounding NSW coastline
Boaters and fishers in NSW have been warned to carry safety equipment and be extra cautious as the state's coast is pounded by a powerful winter swell.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for hazardous surf and swell along NSW on Sunday and police have urged people to avoid walking near exposed areas.
Boaters were told to consider changing or delaying their journey across shallow water and ocean bars, while those already on the water were warned to have safety equipment close at hand.
Forecasters on Saturday also issued a severe weather warning for the Mid North Coast and Hunter district, saying gusty showers and powerful surf should be expected.
However the bureau expected those conditions to ease overnight.
