LUDHIANA: The residents of Samrat Colony, Giaspura, blocked traffic on 33 Feet Road here for nearly an hour on Saturday, claiming that there had been no supply of drinking water to their homes for three days.

The residents said the MC had been laying a pipe line to supply water from tube wells installed in Samrat Colony to New Samrat Colony, and that this had also affected supply to their homes. They added that the MC’s decision to supply water to two localities from the same tube wells would worsen the situation.

The residents said civic body officials had been least bothered about their situation, in spite of several complaints. The residents also asked construction workers who were laying the pipeline to leave.

The councillor of Ward 29, Prabhjot Kaur, blamed the Congress for the situation. “The situation is similar across the city, but the government has done nothing,” she said.

When contacted, MC superintending engineer (operation and maintenance) Rajinder Singh said they had attempted to make arrangements for the time being, but residents objected to it, so they had now decided to increase the timing of tube wells. “This will help supply in both places. A new tube well will also be function by next week,” he said.
