HAJIPUR: A Maoist leader, wanted in around a dozen criminal cases, was apprehended on Sunday from Thathan village of Bihar's Vaishali district by a team of Special Task Force (STF) officers from Patna and local police personnel.

The rebel, identified as Dilip Sahni, is a self-styled commander of CPI(Maoist) in north Bihar, Superintendent of Police Manavjit Singh Dhillon said.

The police had information that Sahni would be visiting Thatan village to meet someone, he said.

"A joint team was constituted to carry out raids in the village. Sahni was arrested and sent to Hajipur divisional jail in the evening," Dhillon added.
