The girl students of Haryana government schools will start getting sanitary napkins by August this year at a service charge of Rs one per packet. The same will also be provided to women belonging to Below Poverty Line families by that time at same charges.

A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting presided over by the Chief Minister, Manohar Lal with senior functionaries of School Education Department and Health Department, here on Saturday.

The Chief Minister said that girls till the age of 18 years would be provided with sanitary napkins in schools, while women over 18 years of age would be provided through Public Distribution System at ration shops every month. A service charge of Re one per packet would be charged on sanitary napkins.

A survey conducted in this regard has revealed that only 28 per cent of girls use sanitary napkins and 40 per cent of women use cloth, which lead to hygiene issues and many diseases. This move of the state government would provide big relief to school girls and women in maintaining hygiene.
