Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said reactionary forces that created obstacles for separate Telangana continued to do so even now, but the government has proved that it can overcome them effortlessly as it was committed to its goals.
In his State Formation Day address after receiving the salute from police forces at Parade Grounds on Saturday, Mr. Rao talked about the conspiracies of the governments in the combined Andhra Pradesh to deny Telangana irrigation facilities. They started with selection of sites for construction of projects in a manner that inter-State disputes were inevitable. They blamed the neighbouring States and did not take up the construction of projects.
He said the TRS government reversed the trend and entered into an agreement with Maharashtra for construction of a project on lower Penganga, a tributary of Godavari. The government has also taken up 23 major and 13 medium irrigation projects on Krishna and Godavari.
Mr. Rao said the commitment of the government in the construction of Palamuru-Ranga Reddy lift irrigation project has enhanced people’s confidence in TRS. All those who had left villages in Mahabubnagar as they could not find work have returned with the grounding of the project.
The profile of Khammam and Kothagudem districts would change after the completion of twin projects – Bhakta Ramadas and Sitarama. The execution of Kaleswaram project was taken up in a record time, he added.
On measures for the welfare of farmers, Mr. Rao said the recent investment support scheme had brought cheers to them. The life insurance scheme to be implemented for farmers from August 15 would make them feel secure.
The government updated land records of 2.38 crore acres and they would be fed into Dharani web portal which would function on the lines of core banking from June 20.
On the occasion, Mr. Rao flagged off the launch of free eye camps across the State from August 15. The government had ensured self-rule of tribals in 1,326 tribal habitations by declaring them gram panchayats. It has attracted investments worth ₹1.29 lakh crore by sanctioning 7,155 industrial units. Hyderabad has occupied a prominent place in information technology in the world. These successes have triggered a debate across the country that Telangana was a role model.
Officials from other States toured here to study the schemes with a view to replicate them back home, he said.
