DeKALB – Firefighters were able to put out a mechanical fire in about an hour Friday morning at Curran Contracting, but not before about $750,000 in damage was caused, according to a news release from the DeKalb Fire Department.

The release says firefighters responded about 8:38 a.m. Saturday to 2200 County Line Road, after a report of black smoke coming from a large machine used in the asphalt-making process. When they arrived, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the bag dryer assembly.

After it took about an hour to put out the fire, firefighters stuck around several hours to make sure the equipment was sufficiently cooled. No injuries were reported, and the fire is being investigated by investigators from the DeKalb Fire Department, the release says.
