Man in critical condition after being struck by car in Lygon Street

A man is fighting for his life after being hit by a car in Brunswick East early on Saturday morning.

Police believe the 31-year-old was crossing Lygon Street about 2.30am to meet a group of friends on the other side when he was hit by a northbound car on the road.

The 27-year-old Coburg woman who was driving the car stopped immediately to help and an ambulance was called.

Paramedics treated the man for life-threatening head injuries and transported him to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

A hospital spokesperson said the man remains in a serious condition.
