“Dangerous Landscaping is a disaster for Urban Futures”, taking cue from this saying, several poets and renowned environmentalists put forward their opinions and apprehensions through poetry and literature. A Literature Seminar on Environment Conservation was held in Environmental Conclave organized by Yugantar Bharti, starting from May 29.

On the fourth day of Environmental Conclave, nineteen poets came forward to express their passion and concern towards the conservation of environment. The seminar was inaugurated by Rajendra Singh, a well known Water Conservationist, commonly known as ‘Waterman of India’.

Rajendra Singh expressed his concern towards the depletion of environmental resources and said “The tribals are the true nature lovers. People should learn the process of sustainable development from the tribals. The sustainability of the tribals has helped them to keep their lands preserved. Science and technology has polluted the environment.” Speaker of State Legislative Assembly, Dinesh Oraon was the chief guest of the seminar. Oraon said, “Social awareness is necessary for conservation of environment. It is important to understand the environment before initiating conservation projects. Several Environmental Conservation Projects are being carried out but it will not be beneficial unless it reaches out to the public.” He appreciated the initiatives of Saryu Roy towards the conservation of environment. The event was held under the guidance of Saryu Roy, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Food Supply Department. The event was marked by the presence of Prof Satyendra Narayan Singh of Nilamber-Pitabmer University, Palamu, Under Chief Secretary, D. K. Tiwari, Narendra Kumar, Ashok Priyadarshi, Mahadev Toppo.

According to Dr. Rajendra Singh, today India is ten times more affected from floods and drought than it was during the time if Independence.

“The people of Jharkhand are close to God due to the presence of forests and rainfall. But this will change in near future as people are destroying the nature in the name of development.”

Additional Chief Secretary DK Tiwari said, “Literature is like nature .People get the same pleasure from reading a poetry which they get from nature. Today even science is moving towards Natural Science.” Novelist Ashok Priyadarshi said, “Literature doesn’t bring revolution it creates awareness among the people. Nature has everything to fulfill our needs but it does not have enough to fulfill our greed.”
