NEW DELHI: A week after a
biker riding a
Harley Davidson disappeared after an accident on the
DND flyway, cops have arrested the driver of the Etios Liva car that had rammed the bike. The accused, Pravesh, is son-in-law of the owner of the vehicle. Police said that Pravesh had tried to blame his cousin Nishant for driving during the accident but was caught after cops verified his locations with his claims.
Cops are yet to find the biker,
Anshuman Puri, who they suspect might have fallen into the Yamuna after the accident. DCP (south-east) Chinmoy Biswal said that cops are still looking for Puri.
Police had zeroed in on Nishant and Pravesh after it was found the car was registered with one Bhappe Singh residing in Canada. Singh had left the car with Pravesh who often lent it out to his cousin Nishant.
Sources said both Nishant and Pravesh, when contacted by their family members, had claimed the other one was at the wheels when the accident took place.
Pravesh told the cops that he was driving at a high speed and had not noticed Puri ahead of him. He said that he had not seen where Puri had fallen, but suspected that the impact of the accident has thrown Puri over the rails into the river.
Pravesh also said that he had gone to meet a kin at Noida and was returning after having dinner at his house. After the accident, passersby had gathered around him and started quizzing him. However, when they started looking for Puri, he managed to slip away and escape in an autorickshaw. He then called his brother Nishant after which both fled to a relative’s house, he told the cops.
Teams were sent to Noida to ascertain where Puri was coming from and the Noida police has been roped in to find out Puri’s whereabouts. Pravesh has been charged under sections of causing death due to negligence and negligent driving.
