HEMLOCK - St. Louis’ softball program won its first district title in 20 years Saturday in comeback style.
As it was the Sharks, who last won a district in 1998 won the opener 4-3 over Ithaca via a three-run rally in the seventh.
From there they beat Division 3 district host Hemlock 2-1. Hemlock swept St. Louis (14-18) in a doubleheader earlier this season,
“We’re as good as anybody when we play our game and we did (Saturday),” said St. Louis coach Robin Hanline. “We played outstanding all day and when we do that we’re hard to beat.”
Trailing 3-1 late in the opener the Sharks rallied to claim the win. Hailey DeRosia had the game-winning single for the Sharks.
Alexis Beeson got the win in the circle as she allowed three runs on five hits while striking out six.
Laurel Hrabal, Aynslee Koutz and Brooklyn Filipiak all had two hits in the opener.
Beeson also won the nightcap as she allowed one run on six hits while striking out three in seven innings.
In the title game the score was tied at 1-1 into the fifth at which point St. Louis pushed across the game winner.
Kaylee Rodrigueaz had three hits to lead the offense while Hrabal had two.
The Sharks will play in the Millington regional next Saturday.
