Military parade at Fort St Angelo

The In Guardia historical military parade is taking place at Fort St Angelo in Vittoriosa this month.

Re-enactors from the Malta Tourism Authority will be wearing époque-coloured costumes. While the order of the day will be read by the commander of the fort, the religion flag, known as Gonfalon, will be blessed by the chaplain of the fort, followed by the inspection of the grand bailiff. Then pikemen, musketeers and halbards will show their military ability and pride while the band, made of bugles and drums, will accompany the different troops during their military exercises. Other attractions during the parade are the Armaiolo and the Colverino cannon. At the end of the parade, officers will give homage to St John the Baptist, patron saint of the Order of St John, to St Angelo and to the grand bailiff.

Fort St Angelo is open daily from 9am to 6pm, with the last admission at 5.30pm. The parade will take place at the Parade Ground in the centre of the fort tomorrow, on June 17 and 24, at 11am. Tickets, both for the fort and the parade, are available from all Heritage Malta museums and sites or online at www.heritagemalta.org.
