A 32-year-old woman has been killed in a high-impact crash after a motorist drove on the wrong side of the Pacific Motorway south of Brisbane, police say.
Officers said the deceased woman was a passenger in a car that collided with another vehicle allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road.
The crash happened near exit 49 on the southbound lane of the motorway at Pimpama just before 1:00am.
Both drivers were taken to the Gold Coast Hospital in a stable condition.
Queensland Ambulance said the 31-year-old female southbound driver sustained chest and arm injuries while the 32-year-old male driver had wrist, neck and back injuries.
No charges have been laid and police said they were yet to interview the male driver who appeared to be travelling north on the wrong side of the M1.
"One of the offending drivers, the vehicle was on the incorrect side of the road. This is a timely reminder for everyone to be safe on the roads and we're appealing for any witnesses to come forward in relation to this incident," Acting Senior Sergeant Graham Roberson said.
Paramedics tried to revive the women but she died at the scene.
Traffic flow on the M1 is now back to normal.
