Two people stole a large amount of jewellery from a Hamilton shop.

Police are looking for two people who snatched an estimated $26,000 in jewellery from a Hamilton jeweller. 

The snatch and run happened at Hart Jewellers on Ward Street in the city centre at 3.30pm on Thursday. 

A man and woman entered the store and managed to grab a haul of jewellery.

Items stolen largely consisted of sterling silver and gold-plated bangles, and a white gold diamond set tennis bracelet, Waikato police Detective Aimee McKenna said. 

The pair then fled the store and were last seen in the Ward Street/Victoria Street area. 

"We are interested in speaking to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and/or witnessed the two suspects arriving at or fleeing the scene."

A similar incident happened at Michael Hill in Rotorua on May 21 this year. 

It was likely the two crimes were linked, McKenna said.
