One seller has listed a “very rare” Act of Union £2 coin for an eye-watering £400.
Seller 1253_arix has 100 per cent positive feedback from 145 transactions.
Describing the coin, the seller wrote: “RARE ~ £2 coin 1707- 2007 puzzle piece”.
Keen buyers can either bid for the coin, with a starting bid of £400, or make an offer.
eBay: Rare £2 coin with Act of Union design listed for £400
The Act of Union £2 was released by Royal Mint in 2007.
Describing the design, they wrote: “The design divides the coin into four quarters, with a rose and a thistle occupying two of the quarters and a portcullis in each of the other two quarters.
“The whole design is overlaid with a linking jigsaw motif and surrounded by the dates ‘1707’, ‘2007’ and the denomination ‘TWO POUNDS’
“When James VI of Scotland became James I of England in 1603, the two countries were united under one monarchy.
“Over the course of the seventeenth century, there were several attempts to bring about a closer union between the two countries but more than a century passed before Scotland and England were finally united under one Parliament.

“The Act was passed in 1707 and to commemorate the 300th anniversary of a remarkable union, The Royal Mint issued a special £2 coin.
“Created by Yvonne Holton FRSA, the reverse design symbolises the joining of Scotland and England in a political union through a rose and thistle growing from a single stem, accompanied by a portcullis to signify Parliament and overlaid with a linking device of a jigsaw.”
However, with a mintage of 7,545,000, the coin is not one of the rarest in the UK.
Unusual coins are often listed on eBay, and this seller isn't the only one hoping to cash in.
One of the most recent coins listed on the site is a “rare” £2, minted back in 2012 and featuring a Charles Dickens motif. It is listed for a pricey £350.

The listing’s title reads: “Very rare charles dickens 2 pound coin 2012 MINT ERRORS!”
It seems the seller has even more money in mind for the sale of the coin, with £350 just the starting bid, and almost a week left of bidding, could see its price soar.
Despite the high listing price of the coin, according to scarcity index CheckYourChange.co.uk, the Charles Dickens £2 coin is actually quite common.
With a mintage for circulation of 8,190,00, it is rated one for collectibility and scarcity, the lowest rating.
Due to the minting errors detailed on the listing, the listed coin’s scarcity rating could well be a lot lower.
