Arbaaz Khan confesses to betting on IPL matches, say Thane police sources

Bollywood actor-producer Arbaaz Khan has confessed to having placed bets on Indian Premier League matches last year, Thane police sources said on Saturday.

A police source close to the investigation said Arbaaz, who was summoned by the anti-extortion cell in connection with the betting racket, had allegedly lost Rs 2.7 crore last year.

“Apart from him, name of another producer has also cropped up, and very soon he will be called for questioning ,” sources said.

Arbaaz was summoned days after the arrest of a bookie Sonu Jalan alias Sonu Batla, who allegedly operated in the country as well as abroad.

“During investigation, it was found that Arbaaz was being threatened by Jalan,” Pradeep Sharma , senior police inspector with the anti-extortion cell said.

Two days after Jalan’s arrest, the anti-extortion cell found a diary with phone numbers of more than 100 bookies.

The names of a Bollywood celebrity, contractors and builders figured in the diary, police said.

“Jalan had arranged a match-fixing meeting at Dubai. The celebrity was also present at that time. We are probing to know which match was fixed and who all were involved,” Sharma said.
